Louise Cooper, age 97, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home with Rev. Phil Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Madrid.

Louise was born in Madrid, Iowa on October 1, 1908 the daughter of Earl and Alta (Clement) Brown. She graduated from Madrid High School in 1926 and attended a year at the Iowa State Teachers College. She began teaching at the Hillsdale Rural School near Madrid where she taught for two years. She then taught school for three years at Goldfield, Iowa. Later, she became Deputy Superintendent of Schools for Boone County from 1933 to 1943. On March 18, 1943, she married Willard Cooper in Madrid. In 1943, she and her husband moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she worked for Garrett Freight Lines as a cashier. In December of 1943, the couple moved to Pocatello, Idaho where they lived for 48 years and she was office manager for Garrett Freight Lines. Louise moved back to Boone in 1991. Her main hobby was oil painting and she loved to paint landscapes and flowers. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing bridge, growing flowers, was active in the First United Methodist Church, and she and her husband enjoyed traveling.

She was a member of the D.A.R.(Daughters of the American Revolution), Order of the Eastern Star, First United Methodist Church, and she belonged to several bridge clubs. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Helen Partello. She is survived by a sister, Betty Littlehale of Cherokee, Iowa; a nephew, Edward Bargfield and wife, Beverly of Knoxville, Illinois, two nieces, Susan Dove of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Raveling and husband, Rod of Cherokee; several great nieces and great nephews.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Monday from noon until 9 p.m. where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday at the Chapel of the Eastern Star from 11 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
