Dear Stephen,
Thanks for your help. I have tracked down the parents of Caleb Wells, Jr. who moved to Black Hawk, Iowa. They are Caleb, Sr. and Susannah Phillips. Caleb, Sr. was born Feb.24,1772 in E. Greenwich,Kent County,RI. and Susannah was born Feb. 10, 1774 in the same place. They were married in Petersburg, Renssalaer County, NY supposedly about 1790 but I doubt this date because his sons middle name is Coon or Carr so I think he had another wife before Susannah. Caleb, Sr. died in Amboy, NY on Nov. 25,1836 and Susannah died Feb. 23, 1821 in Sidney, Delaware County, NY. They had 9 children -Sally Anne, Samuel, Olive, Caleb Carr or Caleb Coon (all children ,I believe, of first wife),Benjamin,Martha,Priscilla, Thomas Phillips Wells (son of Susannah,2nd wife and Caleb,Sr.), and Matilda.
I have tracked the family to the best of my ability but am having diffficulty with the fact that they started off in RI. My father took me to Wells Bridge,NY when I was small and showed me where the bridge had been. He told me this was my gggg..grandfather. I cannot match it up with records, though. The Wells Bridge Bicentennial Celebration stated that Caleb, Sr. was from CT so I am confused. This was published in the Oneonta Star newspaper. Can you help?
Truly,
Elizabeth Wells-Forman
