Funeral services were conducted this Thursday at 9:30 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville for Michael Schmitz, 62, who died at St. Francis hospital Monday of a heart ailment. He has been ill for five weeks.

He was born November 6, 1885 at Gilbertville, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Catherine Schmitz. He resided on the same farm near Gilbertville until he retired in 1947, moving to Waterloo.

He married Anna Kettmann at Gilbertville on October 21, 1908. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville until moving to Waterloo, when he became a member of St. Edward's parish.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Roman, Bernard and Michael, of Jesup, and Harold of Waterloo; four daughters, Mrs. Leonard Schares of Jesup, Mrs. Lawrence Frost, of La Porte City, Marcella and Edna, at home; 16 grandchildren; five brothers, Chris, Jacob, Matt of Gilbertville, John of Dyersville, Joseph of Mankato, Minnesota; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Even of Gilbertville; Mrs. Katherine Miller of Glendale, Calif.; and Mrs. Anna Ambrosy of Independence.
