LEONARD PINT PASSES BEYOND

Well-Known Farmer Of Black Hawk County.

Was Native of Germany-Made Overland Trip to California in '49
Leonard Pint, age 75 years, pioneer resident of Black Hawk County and a "forty-niner", died at 12:55 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home in Gilbertville. Death was due to old age and complications. Mr. Pint had been ailing fro some time and death was not unexpected.
Born in Prussia, Oct. 6, 1838, Mr. Pint spent his early boyhood in the fatherland. At the age of 16 years he came to America with his parents, sailing from Antwerp, the voyage consuming twenty-eight days. The family settled in Cook County, Illinois.
When gold was unearthed in California and the gold fever struck the country, Mr. Pint was among the first to start for the new Eldorado, making the journey overland with six other prospectors with a team of oxen and the covered wagon of the plains. A stop of three weeks was made by the party in Colorado. Many were the romantic experiences of Mr. Pint during his search for gold, and he met with more or less success in his prospecting. At different times, he engaged in mining in California, Colorado, and Idaho.

Large Land Owner
Fifty-two years ago, Mr. Pint returned to Iowa, purchasing an 80-acre tract of land in Fox Township, Black Hawk County, and later accumulating 200 acres. Disposing of this he bought a 315-acre farm in Poyner Township, which he titled until thirteen years ago, when he retired from agricultural work and removed to Gilbertville.
Mr. Pint was married in 1863 to Miss Mary Jilley and nine children were born to this union. The deceased was active in the Democratic party and was a member of the Catholic Church.
The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock and burial will be in the cemetery at Gilbertville.

(mother's maiden name has been seen as Tibolt, Debolt, Debold, Dewolt, Dowelt, etc)
