R. William "Bill" Staebell, 84, of Evansdale, Iowa, died Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born April 22, 1935, in Waterloo, the son of William Joseph and Clara Catherine Schons Staebell. Bill attended Dunkerton, Jesup, OLVA schools, and graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence. He married Marlene Rose Sheldahl July 30, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo. He was the founder, owner, and CEO of Town and Country Home Improvement of Waterloo from 1961 until the present.

He served on the Elk Run City Council and was an original Board member of the Evansdale Bank, which is now First Security State Bank, starting in 1962 until the present. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church where he was in active in the Resurrection Choir. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, and Waterloo Elks Club. Bill enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and attending their events. He also enjoyed playing tennis, boating, traveling, and hunting.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marlene Staebell of Evansdale‚ IA; five children: Debbie (Terry) Gross of Dubuque‚ IA, Tim (Sharon) Staebell of Chipley, FL, Jeff (Andy Snyder) Staebell of Des Moines‚ IA, Scott (Lisa) Staebell of Hudson, IA, and Lisa (Joel) Dalrymple of Waterloo‚ IA; 11 grandchildren: Kate (Tommy) Lange, Megan (Michael) Berns, Janifer, Joey, and Tyler Staebell, Abby, Alec, and Anna Staebell, Allison, Ben, and Grace Dalrymple; four great-grandchildren: Addison, Jack, and William Lange, and Maria Berns; three sisters: Stephanie Staebell of Eden Prairie‚ MN, Mary Perrin of Kansas City‚ MO, and Rita (Mark) Rosauer of Le Claire‚ IA; a brother, Denny (Rita) Staebell of Waterloo‚ IA; a brother-in-law, Lavern Sand of Independence‚ IA; and three sisters-in-law, Helen Staebell of Mesa‚ AZ, Rosemarie Staebell of Des Moines‚ IA, and Bonnie Hughes of Manchester, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Joe, Vince, and John Staebell; a sister, Jeanne M. Sand; two brothers-in-law, Bill Hughes and Roger Leone; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Lee.
