Jerry L. Niedert, 75, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Evansdale, Iowa, died at home Monday, June 18.

He was born December 2, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Herman and Virginia Smith Niedert. He married Cheryl Lynn McCombs, and they later divorced.

Jerry attended Cedar Falls High School. He worked for Wagner Construction Co. and later worked in the Foundry at John Deere, retiring from John Deere PEC in 1995.

He was a former Evansdale city councilman, volunteer fire fighter and EMT; he served on Evansdale Water Works board and Parks Department board; was a member and former commander of Sons of AMVETS Post 31. He was a member of UAW Local 838 and was past union steward, committeeman, financial secretary and first vice president.

Survived by: three daughters, Terrie Miller of Waterloo, Brenda (Rick) Forstall of Granite Bay, Calif., and Tammy Jo (Steven) Rambo of Waterloo; a son, Tim (Rachel) Niedert of Dysart; three grandchildren, Brandon, Nicholas and Zachary; five great-grandchildren, Kendra, Jackson, Alexander, Karis and Lucas; three sisters, Carole (Mike) Pierson of Kingsman, Ariz., and Velma Niedert and Debbie Niedert, both Evansdale; and special friends, Bill (Nita) Quibell of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Gary and Kenny; and a sister, Janice McCo
