Biography--

Dorothy E. (Fortsch) Brase, 78 of Waterloo, died at her home on Saturday, June 2, 2018.

She was born October 21, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Alice Ford Fortsch. Dorothy graduated from Readlyn High School in 1957 and attended classes at Pitzes Hair College.

She married Robert Brase on June 25, 1959, they later divorced.

Dorothy worked as a bartender and waitress for 10 years, worked at Frink’s Green House for two years, a house keeper for five years, a senior companion for four years and a baby sitter to several children for many years.

She is a former member at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and a current member of Realife Church in Waterloo, where she was a baptized member. Dorothy loved to make up her own songs and sing them to you. She also loved to word search, crochet, fishing, baking, bowling, and spending time with all her family and family gatherings.

Dorothy is survived by: a special friend, Wayne Meyer of Waterloo, IA; two daughters, Kelly (Pete) Laws of Waterloo, IA, and Beth Crouse of Evansdale, IA; a son, Gregory Brase of Waterloo, IA; daughter‑in‑law, Kathy Brase of Waterloo, IA; step son, John (Rayne) Ayers of Dakota City, SD; step daughter, Angela Taylor of Waterloo, IA; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother‑in‑law, Bill Gumm of Westgate, IA; two sisters‑in‑law, Claudette Fortsch of Lewiston, MN and Lou Fortsch of Sumner, IA.

She is preceded in death by: her son Byron Brase; son in law, John Crouse; brothers, Glenroy, Allen, and Ervin; sister, Alice Ann Gumm; and great-grandson, Oakleigh.

She was “Granny” to many.
