JoAnn Eleanor Rink

September 24, 1935 - June 11, 2018

JoAnn Eleanor (Jordan) Rink, age 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Madonna Towers Living Community in Rochester, Minnesota on June 11, 2018.

JoAnn was born on September 24, 1935 to Harold and Rose (Cenek) Jordan in Cresco, Iowa. She attended Catholic school and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1953 in Cresco. During her high school years she worked at the local Maid-Rite. She loved that job so much she always dreamed of owning her own Maid-Rite franchise. Following graduation, she moved to Waterloo, Iowa to work at Rath Packing Company.

On July 19, 1955 she married Robert “Bob“ Rink of Cresco at Assumption Catholic Church. They made their home in Waterloo for nearly six decades, until moving to Rochester, MN to be closer to family. JoAnn began her job at the Hy-Vee bakery in Waterloo in 1977, a job she loved for 35 years. She especially enjoyed giving out samples and talking with customers in the store. JoAnn would often reminisce about walking to Mass every Sunday morning with her Dad, rain or shine, as a child. Her love for the church continued throughout her life. Later in life, JoAnn rekindled her passion for dancing, taking part in country line dancing several nights a week. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

JoAnn is survived by her two sons: Dave (Vickie) Rink of Rochester, MN, and Jeff (Angela) Rink of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren: Matt (Kelly) Rink of Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer (Jeff) Anderson of Rochester, MN, and Jordan Rink of Sioux Falls; two step-grandchildren: Abby and Adam Groth of Sioux Falls; and two great-granddaughters: Charlotte (Charli) Rink and Olivia Anderson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, a sister Mildred, a brother Leonard, daughter-in-law Liesl Rink, and step-granddaughter Emily Groth.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa. Public visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 14 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation will continue for one hour before service at the church on Friday.

Memorials may be direct to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
