Eldon Nicholas Geber

May 26, 1922 - June 9, 2018

Eldon Nicholas Geber, 96, of Bayport, Minnesota, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, June 9, at Croixdale Retirement Community, Bayport, Minnesota.

He was born May 26, 1922, on the family farm near Zwingle, Iowa, in Dubuque County; the son of Charles and Mary Even Geber. He attended country grammar schools and graduated in 1940 from St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence. He was a veteran of World War II as a Sergeant with the United States Army 1226th Service Unit from 1944-1946.

He married Lucille Catherine Reuter on September 9, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Waterloo, and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2011. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church since 1951.

Survivors include three sons: Steven (Mary) of Atascadero, Calif, Gordon (Emma) of Chatsworth, Calif, and Craig (Mary Anne) of Torrance, Calif; a daughter, Beverly Petrie of Stillwater, Minn; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Raphael (Gabe) of St. Paul, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; a sister in infancy; and by a son-in-law, Dr. Jack Petrie.

Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Catholic Schools.

Eldon was a long time sports enthusiast, particularly baseball, and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He was also was an accomplished bowler with a 300 game to his credit.
