WATERLOO, IOWA — Donald James Fintel, 81, Lebanon, Mo., formerly of the Waterloo and Cedar Falls area, died Thursday, May 31, in Springfield, Mo.

He was born Dec. 17, 1936, to George Frederick and Lola B. Smith Scroggins Fintel in Garrison. On Oct. 26, 1957, he married Sally Jo Stern in Rochester, Minn. She preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 1980.

He worked for John Deere Engineering Center – Dept. 036 in Waterloo for 30 years, retiring on July 20, 1990. He also owned and operated Don’s Auto Body Repair from 1960-1979. After retirement, he moved to Missouri. He followed the Catholic faith throughout his life.

Survived by: a daughter, Kim (Art) Wetzel of Waterloo; two sons, Doug (Annie) Fintel and Greg (Dolly) Fintel, both of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Pam Fintel of Lebanon; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; a son, Jim Fintel; four brothers, Thomas E. Fintel, William G. Fintel, Albert L. Scroggins and Richard E. Scroggins; and three sisters, Eva M. Jelinek, Marjorie M. Adams and Evelyn L. Goettsch.

Graveside services: Tuesday, June 5, in Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon. Visitation will be 1 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton.
