Biography--

Joseph C. Smith, Sr., age 76 of Denver, Iowa, died Monday, March 26, 2018 at his home.

He was born September 5, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of John H. and Daisy P. (Avery) Smith. Joseph attended Waterloo schools. He was united in marriage with Juanita Lee Tournier on September 28, 1963 in Preston, MN.

He began his career at Lenzer Roofing Co. and later owned and operated Joe’s Roofing for 12 years, retiring in 1986. Joe loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He treasured time spent with his family and liked to work on cars and also enjoyed a daily ride with his pet dog Stella.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita of Denver; a son, Joseph C. Smith, Jr. of Waterloo; two daughters, Lisa J. (Tadd) Hennings of Denver and Dena M. Smith of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Brylea; six brothers: William, Richard, Ronald, Merle, Johnnie and Donald Smith; nine sisters: Alta Carter, Virginia Niedert, Garnet Niedert, Charlotte Niedert, Verna Parker, Sandy McCrady, twin sisters Barbara and Gayle and Dottie in infancy.
