Biography--

Ruth L. Mercer, age 97, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on March 28, 2018 at Rosewood Estate.

She was born on January 18, 1921 in Clarksville, Iowa; the daughter of Clarence “Vern” and Amy Bell Copeland Crosby.

She graduated from Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Iowa, she then attended Gates Business College.

Ruth married Dale C. Mercer on July 19, 1941 in Olympia, WA; where Dale was serving in the U.S. Army. Dale preceded her in death on June 3, 1987.

She worked for Viking Pump in Cedar Falls for 20 years, retiring in 1984.

Ruth was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn (Larry) Hudson of West Lafayette, Indiana; and Tom (Dixie) Mercer of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Matt (Colette) Hudson of Shoreline, WA, Lisa (Troy) Szelis of Ft. Wayne, IN, Michelle (Scott) Skrzynski of Frankfort, IL, and Shawn (Nicole Pizzini) Mercer of Solon, IA; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; two sisters; and a brother.
