Obituary for Dorothy M. Wested

February 18, 1925 - March 21, 2018

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Dorothy M. Wested, 93, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

She was born February 18, 1925, in Yankton, South Dakota, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Helfer) Skene. She married Norman “Lee” Wested on October 2, 1948 in La Porte City, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2016.

She graduated from Waterloo East High School and Cosmetology School. She was a homemaker throughout her adult life and a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

Dorothy was an amazing cook who loved to read and knit, but above all else, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan (Bill) McGarvey of Cedar Falls and Beth Ann (Dennis) Miller of Janesville; five grandchildren: Cory (Jill) McGarvey, Troy (Rochelle) McGarvey, Ben (Amber) McGarvey, Shauna (Matt) Heath, and Jocelyn Scott; and nine great-grandchildren: Collin, Kaleigh, Elizabeth, Abby, Conner, Keegan, Colby, Walker, and Lennon.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Skene; two sisters, Wilma Clark and Sybil Bagenstos; and two step sisters, Marjorie Stephens and Francis Aldrich.

Services: Monday, March 26 at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls, with visitation until service time. Private burial in Highland Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice, or to the family for designation to Highland Cemetery for maintenance.
