Biography--

Robert J. “Bob” Dean, 90, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital, on Thursday, March 8, 2018, of natural causes.

Bob was born on October 16, 1927 in Waterloo, the son of Harold & Louene (Bige) Dean.

He served in the U.S. Navy receiving an honorable discharge in 1948.

Bob married Peggy Jane Love on October 31, 1948 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2010.

Bob worked with the clean up team at Rath Packing Company for 34 years, retiring in 1985.

He was formerly a member of Cedar Valley Community Church and currently a member of Waterloo Worship Center, the Sky Pilots Boys Club at Grace Brethren Church, and the Waterloo VFW and American Legion.

Survived by two sons, Danny (Cheryl) Dean of Yakima, WA and David (Beth) Dean of Fort Worth, TX; four daughters, Judy (John) McCreery of Cedar Falls, Linda (Eric) Mason of Wheaton, IL, Laury Dean of Waterloo, and Amy (Alex) Popenhagen of Elgin; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roger Dean of Hawkeye.

Preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathy Sue Grace Dean; and a granddaughter, Aubrey Lynn Grace Dean.

Bob enjoyed photography, teaching and playing chess, and jazz music. He was interested in short wave radios and followed the Chevaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.

Bob was a devoted and enthusiastic follower of Jesus Christ.

Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Cedar Valley Community Church in Waterloo, Iowa

Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Kearns Funeral Service, Kimball Chapel
