Norma Ruth (Ekberg) Johnson was born April 20, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Hamilton) Ekberg. She grew up and attended schools in Minnesota. A

fter she was married to Obert Johnson, they moved to Iowa where he worked on his family’s farm. They lived in Iowa until 1965 when they returned to Minnesota where she managed an Estee Lauder Cosmetic Counter. Norma began a new adventure when she moved to California in 1991 where she managed an apartment complex for six years.

She returned to Minnesota where she, again, worked as an apartment manager. Finally, Norma moved to Waterloo to be near her daughter. Norma loved life and faced it with a positive attitude. She loved to give to others and would say, “Don’t take away my good” when met with reluctance to accept her gifts. She loved to travel joining Linda and Larry for many years in Arizona. Norma enjoyed fishing in Canada, loved music and cooking for her family, and enjoyed playing cards and games. She was a member of an Al-Anon group that she also held close to her heart.

Norma passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home at the age of 90 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gary Lee Johnson; brother, Bob Ekberg; brother–in-law Bill Mogil, two step-brothers, Jerry and Bill Modeen; son-in-law, Larry Seery; and her very special friend, Nick Harms.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Linda of Evansdale; 2 sisters, Shirley Mogil of Costa Mesa, CA and Barb (Bob) Langston of Brooklyn Center, MN; brother, Kenneth (Lee) Ekberg of Brooklyn Center, MN; sister-in-law, Karen Ekberg of Wisconsin; step-brother, Wayne (Donna) Modeen of MN; six grandchildren: Lucas Seery of Waterloo, Randy Johnson of MN, Cynthia (Chris) Oxley of MN, Laura (Jon Dochterman) Bartelme of Cedar Rapids, Lisa (Mark) Anderson of Waterloo, and Sandy Johnson of MN; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews; and friends who were very important to her.
