Biography--

Wilbur Eugene Cook, 93, of Waterloo, died at Sunrise Hill Care & Rehab Center in Traer on Sunday, January 7, 2018 of natural causes.

He was born February 6, 1924 in Parker, South Dakota, son of Nick and Aetha Hargrove Cook. He graduated from Waterloo West High School.

Wilbur married Ivyle S. Burt on September 28, 1946 in Waterloo; she died October 1, 1991.

John Deere plant maintenance for 33 years and retired on October 31, 1983. Wilbur served in the United States Navy during World War II. He received the Bronze Star for the Battle of Iwo Jima and for D‑Day day 1 on Normandy Beach.

He was a Mason and a Shriner for 50+ years. Wilbur was interested in photography; loved boating, camping, traveling, motorcycle riding and was also an airplane pilot.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol (John) Hofstadter of Buckingham; four grandchildren: Troy Cook, Shane (Laurel) Cook, Neil (Kara) Hofstadter, and Bridget (Jon Hoffman) Hofstadter; and four great‑grandchildren: Jonathan Cook, Tyler Olswold, and Dillon and Oliver Hofstadter.

Wilbur is preceded by his wife; a son, Gregory D. Cook; and sisters, Marjorie Eckersley and Winifred Zubak.
