Saturday, January 6, at the Friendship Village Chapel: 600 Park Ln, Waterloo.

Visitation:
Friday, Jan 5, 2018 at Locke Funeral Home

Cemetery:
Burial will precede the service in Orange Township Cemetery.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, directed to Gideon’s International, Friendship Village Auxiliary, or Grace Brethren Church.

Biography--

Amy D. Smith, 93, of Waterloo, died at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village on Monday, January 1, 2018 of natural causes.

She was born on May 10, 1924 in Grinell, Iowa; the daughter of Harry and Greta Wells Buckridge. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1941.

Amy married Clair R. Smith on January 19, 1947 in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on August 19, 1986. She and her husband farmed in Orange Township; they owned and operated Smith's Property Inc. for over 25 years; She retired in 1986.

Amy was a member of Grace Brethren Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and was on the Missions Commission. She was president of the local chapter of Gideon’s International.

She was a member of PEO Chapter IU- chaplain and secretary. She was a membership chair of the Goodwill Auxiliary. She was past president of the Orange Township 1530 Club and vice president of the West Orange Club. Amy was a member of the Friendship Village Council and longtime Friendship Village volunteer. She hosted foreign exchange students and traveled to visit them in their home countries of Sweden, New Zealand, and Cebu Island, Philippines. Amy enjoyed traveling to over 25 countries and 49 states, and knitting.

Survivors include her children: son, Fred Smith of Park Ridge, NJ; son, Neil Smith of Edmonds, WA; daughter, Kathryn (Lloyd) Bettis of Glenview, IL; son, Gary Smith of Cedar Falls, IA; and daughter, Carolyn Smith of Waterloo, IA; son-in-law, John Cessna of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren: Lisa Smith, Chris (Carmel) Bettis, Lael Smith, Erica Abberton, Mike Cessna, and Emily Lichty-Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Colton Abberton, Wesley Abberton, and Harper Woolsey.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Kris Cessna; two brothers, William Buckridge and Richard Buckridge, and two sisters, Alma Card and Idahmae Hibben.
