Biography--

Mary Ellen Sims, 70, of Evansdale, died at Covenant Medical Center, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 of natural causes.

Mary was born on June 15, 1947 in Fisher, Arkansas, daughter of Herman and Reba (Hill) Davis.

She graduated from East High in 1965. She went on to receive a medical secretary degree from Hawkeye Technical College.

Mary married Dan Smock and they later divorced. She married Richard Sims on December 14, 1985 in Waterloo.

She worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Bovenmeyer for 19 years and then worked in admitting at Covenant for 12 years, retiring in 2012.

Mary was member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survived by her husband, Richard Sims of Evansdale; three sons, Jeff (Lisa) Smock of Elk Run Heights, Mike (Kami) Sims of Albuquerque, NM, and Bill (Anna) Sims of Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters, Tiffini Meany and Heidi (Dave) Frank both of Evansdale; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Mark (Lorna) Davis of Arkansas and a sister, Leeann Davis of Evansdale.

Family meant everything to Mary. She loved absolutely everyone and had a heart of gold.
