Biography--
Betty Jean Adsit, age 93, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at UnityPoint Health--Allen Hospital, in Waterloo, on Monday, October 16, 2017.

She was born on November 22, 1923 in Charles City; the daughter of Walter and Clara Springer Gardner.

She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School; Betty then graduated as a Valedictorian from Hawkeye Tech as an LPN.

Betty married Herbert James Pyle on November 24, 1941 in Charles City; he preceded her in death on March 3, 1965.

She worked as a LPN at St. Francis Hospital; and then worked at John Deere PEC for 10 years, retiring in January 1978.

Betty was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church, she was a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Resurrection Choir. She volunteered at the Veterans Home, Cancer Center and Red Cross Hurricane Recovery, all in Florida. She volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Bookroom in Waterloo. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and volunteered with Hospice.

Betty cherished her time with her family. She enjoyed sewing, walking, reading, watching television, and cooking. Betty loved to travel, especially to Norway to see her son Don, and her trip to Rome. She attended mass every day possible and was a dedicated volunteer.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia (Cordell) Smith of Waterloo; two sons, James (Bev) Pyle of Waterloo, and Donald (Randi) Pyle of Oslo, Norway; 11 grandchildren: Christine Bell, Timothy Pyle, Mark Pyle, Trond Pyle, Catherine Pyle, Ryan Donnelly, Jason Donnelly, Amy Hart, Josh Pyle, Angie Camlin, Matt Camlin; 10 great-grandchildren: Luke Pint, Sarah Hulse, Jerry Pint, Candace Wood, Niki Wood, Jessie Wood, Casey Pyle, Jonah McNamara, Cody Cook and Amanda Sweerin; and 16 great-great-grandchildren: Noah, Bradley, Nathan, Brooklyn, Dakota, Madilyn, Ava, Samantha, Devon, Lily, Ashton, Alexis, Jameson, Dylan, Deanna and Allison Mae.

Betty was preceded by her parents; husband; a son, David Roger Pyle; a daughter, Janet Mae Sweet; a granddaughter, Michelle Pyle; a brother, Joe Gardner; a sister, Mary Simmons; and son in law, Richard Sweet.
