Walter "Wally" A. Kofta

May 22, 1928 - October 20, 2017

Walter A. “Wally” Kofta, 89, of Waterloo, died Friday, October 20, at the Western Home Communities Martin Center.

He was born May 22, 1928, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, son of Arthur and Blanche Noel Kofta. He married Agnes McCabe on January 7, 1950 in LaCrosse. She died May 16, 1997.

Wally was employed with Auto Lite in LaCrosse and later with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 28 ½ years, retiring August 28, 1987. He also was a window washer for the James Black Building, the Rath Packing Company and other buildings in downtown Waterloo. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years, of which we have all heard many stories.

Survivors include a son, Bruce (Anne) Kofta of Waterloo; six daughters: Debbie (Frank) Cooney of Solon, Sharon Kofta of Shakopee, Minnesota, Cindy Zelin, Renee (Wendell) Lupkes and Carmen (Jamie) Knutson, all of Waterloo, and Pamela Schreiber of Atlanta, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Harriet) Kofta of South Lyon, Michigan; and a sister, Linda (Otto) Butzman of LaCrosse.

Preceded in death by; his parents; his wife; two brothers, Arthur and Kenneth Kofta; and a sister, Betty Klonkowski.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Friday.

Memorials may be directed to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cedar Valley Hospice or the Western Home Communities.
