Biography--

John A. “Johnny” Walker, age 93, of Shell Rock, Iowa, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Shell Rock Health Care Center on Saturday, October 21, 2017.

He was born on February 19, 1924 in Pine Island, MN; the son of John Alvin Sr. and Helen Schlief Walker. Johnny graduated from Rochester High School in 1941.

He married Ione Kujath on April 27, 1943 in Kasson, MN; she preceded him in death on April 3, 2012.

Johnny worked 44 years in the beverage industry, starting in Rochester, MN and Milwaukee, WI; he then worked for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in Waterloo and retired as production manager in 1989.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, he was wounded in Okinawa and received a purple heart; Johnny was honorably discharged in December 1945. He was a member of St. Timothy's United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls; he was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, Purple Heart, and the Disabled American Veterans organization.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Reimer of Wauwatosa, WI and Sheryl (Michael) Sires of Shell Rock, IA; a son, Craig Walker of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren: Christopher Reimer, Rachel (Bryan) Becker, Jason (Kathryn) Reimer, Adam (Ashley) Sires, John A. Walker IV, Jered Walker, and Amy Kramer; and two great-grandsons, Mason Kramer and Jordan Kramer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ione; and a son, John A. Walker III.
