Obituary for Raymond Karl DeSerano

Raymond Karl DeSerano, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, October 2, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born March 14, 1928 in Rey Center, Mich., son of Ray and Eugenia Domagalski DeSerano. He married Christine Peterson in 1948, they later divorced. He then married Velma Speicher on April 2, 1992 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Ray served in the 8th Army as Corporal in World War II. He worked for Iowa Public Service for ten years until moving on to work as an electrician for the Waterloo School System where he stayed for 29 years, retiring in 1992.

Survivors include his wife; three sons: Roger (Deb), Stanley (Nancy), and Norman DeSerano; three daughters: Nancy (Ted) Gray, Susan DeSerano and Cheryl Straube; three step-children: Steve (Marcia) Speicher, Sandra (Frank) Bowman and Linda (Kevin) Dallenbach; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Art DeSerano.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 6, at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo. Private family burial preceding the memorial service at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard and the Waterloo and Evansdale Amvets. Public visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway.

Memorials may be directed to Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.
