Nora LaVon Benefiel was born November 16, 1923, in Hazleton, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Bessie (Scott) Smith. After school, Nora moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where she worked for Henson’s as a seamstress.

She was married to Roy Benefiel on June 30, 1945, and began her role as a proud homemaker. In their younger years, Nora and Roy roller skated and could do the 2-step on skates. Nora enjoyed crocheting lace, tablecloths, doilies, and bedspreads. She also loved to feed birds so she could enjoy watching them in her own yard.

Nora passed away at the age of 93 years at ManorCare Health Services of Waterloo on Sunday, October 1, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers: Orin, Joe, and Earl; and 3 sisters: Audrey, Nadine and Patricia. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Roy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
