Donald John “Don” Maxfield, 81, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Denver, Iowa, died Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home of a lengthy illness.
Don was born June 10, 1936, in Waterloo, the son of Marion and Leone (London) Maxfield.
He graduated from Waterloo East High School. Don married Lulu Belle Streblow on October 21, 1954 in Waterloo; she preceded him in death on February 20, 1998.
Don worked in the boning department at Rath Packing Co., and later as a pipe fitter, retiring in 1998, but continued to work with his son at Custom Craft Furniture.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was instrumental in raising his grandchildren into the fine young people they’ve become. Don loved caring for animals and always had a pet.
Don is survived by: a son, Terry (Kim) Maxfield of Brooklyn, Iowa; a daughter, Kathy (Duane) Maxfield-Duffy of Stanley, Iowa; four grandchildren: Kyrie Youde, Tyler Kneeland, Devon Maxfield, and Derek Maxfield; two great-grandchildren: Rory Youde and Finley Youde; a sister, Marilyn Pates of Waterloo; three grand dogs: Cooper, Carley, and Red; and a furry friend, Ollie.
He was preceded in death by: two sisters: Ida Mae Que and Maxine Munger.
