Margaret Louise Miller

March 10, 1928 - August 28, 2017

Margaret Louise (Colter) Miller, 89, of Roscoe, Ill, formerly of Waterloo, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, 300 West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 pm vigil. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church.

Margaret was born to the late Erma Evans and Leo Colter in New Ulm, Minn. on March 10, 1928, the fourth of eight children. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterloo in 1946 and worked as an usherette at the original Strand Theatre. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the YMCA where she met Richard Miller, whom she married on Nov. 27, 1946.

She raised six children and continued employment as a bookkeeper for several companies. She enjoyed golf, bridge, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her large family.

Survived by her children; Sue Kalkirtz of Roscoe, Ill.; Donald Miller (Marcia) of Indianola; Thomas Miller (Jackie) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Stephen Miller (Shuri Wagner) of Springfield, Mo.; Mary Crea (Anthony) and Ann Usher (Thomas) of Cleveland, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. She also survived by her brother, Rev. Dennis Colter of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Falls.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Miller, and one grandchild; three brothers, Francis “Fritz”, Donald and Gene; three sisters, Lorraine Koch, Charlotte Wysocki and Rose Marie Griebel.
