Biography--

Susan “Sue” Gruver, 74, of Waterloo, died Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the Cedar Falls Western Home Elizabeth E. Martin Center of natural causes.

She was born December 24, 1942 in Charles City, the daughter of Chauncey and Mercedes (Warrington) Kay. She was a graduate of Charles City High School.

Sue married Dennis Hankes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, they were later divorced. She married Othel “Dean” Gruver January 3, 1993 in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on July 3, 2015.

She worked as a waitress for Country Kitchen in Waterloo, retiring after 40 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Gina (Rick) Gerke of Waterloo, Robin (Shannon) Conaway of Waterloo; four grandchildren: Terra (Abby) Adelmund of Dubuque, Justin Conaway of Waterloo, Matt (Nikki) Adelmund of Perry, Savanah Conaway (Lana Miller) of Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren, Laycee and Aaron Adelmund; and by two sisters, Sandra (Gary) Woodworth of Charles City and Sharon Kline of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five siblings, Chauncey Kay, Jr., Faith Starbuck, Gary “Bud” Kay, Maureen Sciortino and Larry Kay.

Sue’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
