Obituary for Wayne Tibbets

Clarus “Wayne” Tibbets, 84 of Evansdale, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

He was born June 5, 1933 in Riceville, son of Leslie and Elsie Rosensweig Tibbits.

He married Nancy A. Cole August 25, 1961 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She died March 17, 2015.

Wayne served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960. He was employed with Mid Continent as a vender repairman from 1961 until his retirement in 1989.

He is survived by two daughters, Tracy (Don) Baraibar of Rockwell City and Tina Tibbets Bailey of Evansdale; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, John (Priscilla) Tibbits of Twin Cities, Minn.; a sister, Bonnie Bly of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a grandson, in infancy.

Wayne served on the Evansdale Fire Department for 18 years. He was currently serving as District Commander and 2nd Vice Commander for the Evansdale Amvets Post 31. He previously served the Amvets as Provost Marshall and 3rd Dist. Commander ’96-’97, 1st Vice Commander ’97 –’98, State Commander ’07 – ’08. He was also a member of the Amvets Funeral Honor Guard.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 22 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, escorted by the Evansdale Fire Department. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo and Evansdale Amvets Posts 19 & 31 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home on West Ridgeway, continuing for one hour before services on Tuesday.
