Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Church, Barclay Township, for Mrs. August Kurtz, 84, resident of Black Hawk
County since 1867, who died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Casper (Clara) Ortner, Dunkerton, Ia. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waterloo, Ia. Death was caused by a heart ailment. Mrs. Kurtz had been ill for
the past year.Born in Baden, Germany, Mar. 17, 1861, Minnie Falk came to America when she was six years old and settled with her family in Fox Township, Black Hawk County. On Feb 1, 1882, she was married to August Kurtz at Gilbertville. Ia. Mr. Kurtz died 26 years ago, while the family was residing at 216 Logan Avenue, Waterloo.
Survivors are four sons, John, Independence, Ia., Frank, Cedar Falls, Ia., Charles and Henry, Route 3, Waterloo; three daughters: Mrs. Casper (Clara) Ortner, Mrs. Mathias (Elizabeth) Thomas, 216 Logan Avenue and Mrs. Mike (Mary) Erpelding, Jesup, Ia.; one sister, Mrs. Fern Wilson, 724 Vine Street; 24 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her husband, one son, William, Portland, Ore., and one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Josephine) Ortner, Dunkerton.
The body will be taken to the Ortner home from Parker & Son funeral home at Jesup Monday afternoon, where it will remain until time for the services.
