Obituary for Nicholas James Wellner

Nicholas James Wellner, 15, of Waterloo, passed away Monday, July 24, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home from a rare genetic disorder, Batten Disease.

He was born August 5, 2001, in Waterloo, the son of James and Jill Drobny Wellner. Nicholas would have been entering his Junior year at River Hills School.

Survivors include: his parents, of Waterloo; his brother, Brad Wellner of Waterloo; his sister, Kayla Wellner of Waterloo; paternal grandparents, Cletus and Mary Ann Wellner of Waterloo; maternal grandparents, Bob and Phyllis Drobny of The Villages, Fla; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation also one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Nicholas loved movies, especially superhero themed. It would be unlikely to find Nick not wearing a Hulk or Batman shirt. He had an infectious smile and lit up any room. He was dearly loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.
