Biography--

Robert W. “Wayne” Johnston, Jr., age 56, of Waterloo, died at Covenant Medical Center on June 26, 2017.

He was born in Waterloo on April 26, 1961; the son of Robert Wayne Johnston, Sr. and Joyce Kathleen “Kathi” Billington.

He graduated from Tripoli High School. He later completed Job Corps training in Nebraska; he attended Nebraska State University for psychology and then served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Rebecca Benzol in 1989, and they later divorced. Wayne later married Maelea Lee.

Wayne worked for IBP, lawn mower department at Sears, and had worked as a roofer for a period of time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. Wayne loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Maelea Lee of Waterloo; his mother, Joyce “Kathi” Hagberg of Waterloo; a son, Charles Wayne; a daughter, Jessica Jo Johnston; a son, Jessi Everett of Waterloo; and two sisters, Tina Jo (Steven) Carlson of Las Vegas, NV and Tiona Johnston of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Johnston, Sr., and step-father, Shelby Hagberg.
