John Andrew Bieber

July 7, 1931 - June 29, 2017

John A. Bieber, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, June 29 at Ravenwood Specialty Care.

He was born July 7, 1931 in Edmonds, Washington, the son of Warren and Thelma Hunt Bieber. He married Marjorie Boleyn Dyke August 17, 1964, in Las Vegas. She died August 26, 1993. He married Verla Feldhausen Wilson June 21, 1996, in Waterloo.

John was employed with Rath Packing Company for 30 years and then was an insurance salesman, retiring in 1994. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; four step-sons, Karlton (Dianne) Dyke, Eddie (Bea) Wilson, all of Waterloo, Rodney Wilson of Frankfort, Kan. and Gary (Anne) Wilson of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; a step-daughter, Penny (Bruce Pietro) Wilson of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Dix-Bictner, eri Burt, Nick Wilson, Joshua Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Garrett (Amanda) Ramthun, Ben (Echo) Wilson and Theresa (Nick) Reandon; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Wayne Wirkkula of Cedar Falls and a sister, Bette (Bruce) Larson of Shore View, Minn.

Preceded in death by a step-daughter, Anna Belle O’Dell; two grandsons, Richard Dyke and Danny O’Dell and a sister, Suzy Wirkkula.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6 at Unity Presbyterian Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19, Evansdale Post 31 and the U.S. Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

John loved his family and friends and country. One of his last trips was to Washington, DC to visit the Korean War Memorial.
