Obituary for Donald E. Meier

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Donald E. Meier, 88, of Cedar Falls died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born May 15, 1929 in Readlyn, Iowa, son of Fred and Hilda (Westendorf) Meier. He married Mary Billick on October 16, 1954 at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1947 and served in the United States Navy. He was a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49, the American Legion, and the Postal Union. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls where he served on the church council and was a Sunday School teacher.

Survived by: his wife, Mary of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Susan Posekany of Woodburn, Cindy (Mark) Abben of Hudson, Karen Sellers and Kathy Meier of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren: Anna and Tesia Posekany, Christy and Lucas Abben; and a sister, Marlene Reiter of Washburn.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Louise Meier.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22 at Richardson Funeral Service and also for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
