Memorial services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1024 W. 8th Street, Waterloo, Iowa

Visitation:
5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2017 at La Porte City Funeral Home and an hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church

Biography--

Robert L. “Bob” Barz, age 79 of La Porte City, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at La Porte City Specialty Care.

He was born March 16, 1938 in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Herman and Helen Johnson Barz. Bob graduated from Williams High School with the Class of 1956 and Concordia College in 1958.

He was united in marriage with Marsha A. Wassmund on June 14, 1959 in Excelsior, Minnesota.

Bob farmed with his father near Alden for five years and moved to La Porte City in 1965 and farmed until his retirement. He was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He taught Sunday school for 40 years and held many offices at Church, Farm Bureau, Black Hawk Mutual Insurance and also was a 4H leader.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha of La Porte City; three sons, Mark Barz, Jim (Melanie) Barz and Jon (Heidi) Barz, all of La Porte City; six grandchildren, Erica, Bernie, Samantha, Lauren, Alex and Jackie Barz; two sisters, Marlys (Gib) Waggoner of Indio, CA and Arlene Finger of Steamboat Rock, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Pamela; a brother, Millard Barz and a brother-in-law Robert Finger.
