Biography--

Mary C. Sewell, 97, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.

She was born on October 2, 1919, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Jesse Ochs Crawford. She graduated from Jesup High School in 1937. Later, she attended Dickinson Secretarial School. She married Roger C. Sewell on February 16, 1945 at Barclay Presbyterian Church in rural Dunkerton; he died August 29, 2011.

She worked in Black Hawk County Sheriff Wagner’s home caring for their children; in the office of IPS from 1944-1947. Later, she was a teacher’s associate for Waterloo Community Schools at Orange High School, Bunger Jr. High and Kittrell Elementary for 14 years retiring in 1983.

Mary was an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church (now Unity Presbyterian) where she taught Bible and Sunday school. She volunteered as a Nurse’s Aide for the Red Cross and volunteered with Girl Scouts in various areas including a leader trainer.

She is survived by her son Rodney (Kimberly) Sewell of Santa Fe, New Mexico; two daughters, Mary Jane (Bill) Campbell of Spencer, Iowa, and Kathryn Mursch of Austin, TX; three grandchildren: Anastasia Sewell and Bridget and Micah Goodenbour; and by three sisters‑in‑law: Grace Crawford, Kay Crawford, and Lois Crawford.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Margaret Stewart and Joan Annette; and by three brothers: Donald Crawford, Jack Crawford, and Bob Crawford.
