Biography--

Jay W. Culver, 95, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village, Thursday, May 18, 2017.

Jay Wesley Culver was born July 19, 1921, in Lehigh, Iowa, son of Sylvester and Macie (Dugger) Culver. He married Carolyn Corell‑Doolin on April 28, 1956 in Des Moines.

Jay graduated from Harcourt High School in 1939 and he received his bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in 1950. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theatre.

He worked for the City of Waterloo as a city engineer and Director of Public Works from 1962‑1974 and taught Civil Engineering Technology at Hawkeye Community College for 10 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church, where he was an usher, he was also a lifetime member of American Public Works Society, member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, past president of the local chapter of the Iowa Engineering Society, and member of the American Legion Post #138.

He and his wife were diplomats with the Chamber of Commerce and volunteers with the visitors and Convention Bureau at the Waterloo Airport information desk. They were also members with IMP for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Culver, of Waterloo; son Casey Culver of Cedar Falls; son Kerry Culver of Lakeville, MN; son Kevin (Janine) Culver of Shakopee, MN; three grandchildren: Shandrelle (Logan) Moore, Makaela Culver and Johanne (Johnny)Culver Higdon; and four great-grandchildren: Jazmyne, Zayah, Johquez, and Wren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carol L. Culver; a brother, Don G. Culver; and a sister, Nina Larson.
