Biography--

Jan Grittmann, 65, of Hudson, Iowa, died Sunday, May 7, 2017,at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

She was born March 8, 1952, in Springfield, Ohio, daughter of Walter and Gayle Tammel Hodgson. She married Robert S. Grittmann on May 29, 1971, at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren.

She graduated from Orange High School in 1970 and from Hawkeye Community College in 1979 with an associate's degree in registered nursing. Jan was a registered nurse and office manager in Dr. Grittmann’s office since 1984. She was a member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren where she served on the church board for many years as the treasurer.

Jan helped organize the Orange Community School Reunion prior to its demolition. She enjoyed playing tennis but especially spending time with her grandkids. She was a selfless person who cared more about others than herself.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Grittmann; of Hudson; three sons: Jeff of Clive, Chris of Lakeville, Minn., and Derek (Dawn), also of Clive; a daughter, Jennifer (David) Swanson of Nevada, Iowa; six grandchildren: Tayler and Jake Grittmann, Jonathan, Jessica and Daniel Swanson and Dexter Grittmann; her mother of Waterloo; a sister, Sue (Ken) Hantelmann of Georgetown, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her father.
