Biography--

Charles L. “Chuck” Thein, 65, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at UnityPoint Health ‑ Allen Hospital, in Waterloo, Iowa, on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, of natural causes.

Charles Lawrence Thein was born September 10, 1951, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Lavern and Lorraine Raftis Thein and attended Oelwein schools until he transferred to Waterloo West High School.

Chuck married Gayle Pierce and they divorced. He married Laurie Pierce and they divorced.

He worked at John Deere in production from 1972-1985. Chuck worked for Thein's Trucking hauling hay for several years. He owned and operated Thein’s Auto Sales in Evansdale from 1992-2015 and plowed snow for several winters. He was a member of ABATE of Iowa District 16.

Chuck was an avid Harley rider who always had a big smile and a quick joke to tell. He enjoyed helping people out and loved his children unconditionally.

He is survived by daughters: Lisa (Terry Kettman) Thein, Waterloo, Lindsay (Paul Hosier) Thein, Garland, TX, Autumn Thein, Dallas, TX, and Tara Thein, Waterloo; a son, Cody (Heather Caya) Thein, Waterloo; nine granddaughters: Shelbee, Kaylee, Katee, JoLynne, Kennedy, Ava, Alana, Danyell and Tricia; his stepmother, Maggie Thein, Waterloo; five sisters: Kay (Doug) Estling, Oelwein, Jeanne Barndt, Evansdale, Vicky Greenway, Waterloo, Ruth (Michael) Cummings, Chester, VA and Regina (Darrell) Parmer, Elk Run Heights; three brothers: Rodney (Wendy) Thein, Evansdale, Ronnie Foxen, Waterloo, and Rick (Mary) Foxen, Evansdale; and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher Kendrick Thein; and a brother-in-law, Dexter Greenway.
