Biography--

Shirley M. (Johnson) Bartz, 88, died at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo May 3, 2017 of natural causes. She was born on December 28, 1928, in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, the daughter of Frederick W. and Florence M. Daehler Lee.

Shirley married Verl "Johnny" K. Johnson, Sr. on December 20, 1947, in Independence, Iowa. He died March 3, 1968. Later, she married Robert B. Bartz in February 1976 in Waterloo. He died March 5, 1983.

She was a waitress at the Silver Inn and later the Chesterfield Club, both in Waterloo. Then she worked as a payroll clerk for Hinson Mfg. for 18 years, retiring in 1977. She was also an Avon Cosmetics Representative for 10 years.

Shirley was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Eagles Club and former REAC (Retired Eagles Activity Club) treasurer and she achieved Iowa State REAC Hall of Fame 2010‑2011. She enjoyed playing cards, dice, bingo, and enjoyed any casino with slot machines..

She is survived by her son, Verl (Kelly) Johnson, Jr. of Waterloo; step‑son, Robert (Jeri) Bartz, Jr. of Waterloo; step‑daughter, Nancy (Orlan) Ott of Cedar Falls; three granddaughters: Nicole (Caleb) Cook, Andrea Johnson, and Brooke (Cory Brandt) Johnson; step‑grandson, Rick (Vicki) Johnson; two great-grandchildren and eight great-step‑grandchildren; her siister, Joyce Hall of Mission, TX; brother, Robert (Janet) Lee of Cedar Falls; sister in law, Shirley Lee of Hudson; and brother in law, Bob Lehman of Waterloo.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husbands; grandson, Daniel Johnson; granddaughter, Alana Weaver Johnson; step‑son, Richard Johnson; step‑granddaughter, Diane Johnson; three brothers: Kenneth, Melvin, and Marvin Lee; and four sisters: Lois Lee, Evelyn Carson, Delores Karns, and Marlys Lehman.
