Biography--

Dr. William C. "Bill” Drier, 98, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

William Clarence was born October 16, 1918 in Three Oaks, Michigan the son of Clarence and Helen Dietrick Drier. He graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1936; he received his BS Degree in 1940 from Kalamazoo College and his MD from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1943. Bill married Dorothy "Tod" Bartholomew May 25, 1945 in Detroit, MI. She passed away. He married Helen Palmer Petersen, November 24, 1984 in Waterloo and she passed away.

Dr. Drier interned and served his Residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He joined the practice of Dr. Rohlf and Dr. Thompson in 1947; he served the last five years of his career as the Staff Physician with the Family Practice Center retiring in 1990.

Dr. Drier served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the hospital ship USS Bountiful and witnessed two atomic tests in the Bikini Islands following World War II. He was discharged September 23, 1947 as a Lieutenant.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where he was a member of the Board of Trustees for many years. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Black Hawk County and Iowa Medical Societies, and Tokyo Bay Medical Society. He enjoyed golfing hitting four holes in one. He also enjoyed tennis, growing roses, and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter Holly (David) Heiser of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; two sons: Bill Drier, PhD of Waterloo, and Jim (Margaret) Drier of Wilmette, Illinois; 8 grandchildren and 10 great‑grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Marian Drier of Mesa, Arizona.

He is preceded in death by a sister Anna Lou Hausman.
