Obituary for Nick J. Greco--

Nick J. Greco, 65, of Waterloo, Iowa, died, Sunday March 19, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born August 18, 1951, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son Louis and Ruth Cummings Greco. He married Sandie Amundson on May 26, 1973 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Nick graduated from Columbus High School in 1970 and served in the United States Army as a Sergeant for two years during the Vietnam War. Nick was employed at John Deere for 35 years, retiring in June of 2008.

Survivors include his wife, Sandie of Waterloo; three children: Aimee (Tom) McGowan of Fairview Heights, Ill, Sam (Mel) Greco of Saudi Arabia, and Angelina (Nick) Lingua of Waterloo; six grandchildren: Christian, Dominic, Ava, Alexandria, Aliviah, and Vincent; six sisters: Cece (Greg) Harrington of Waterloo, Sue (Tom) O’Leary of Waterloo, Celeste Hurtado of Waterloo, Sarah (Mark) Eylers of Waterloo, Stephanie (James) Altizer of Ariz, and Mary (Mike) Mentel of Fla; a brother, Greg (Jayne) Greco of Cedar Falls; mother-in-law, Dorothy Amundson of Waterloo; a brother-in-law, Mike Amundson of Waterloo; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Joe Hurtado; and by his father-in-law, Fred Amundson.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4-8 pm Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Natalie Olsen Fund at Veridian Credit Union or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Nick was a devoted husband and great father. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Ditzy. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeye Fan.
