Obituary for Beatrice "Chris" Brustkern--

Beatrice M. “Chris” Brustkern, 84, of Washburn, Iowa, died Sunday, March 19, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa.

She was born August 2, 1932, daughter of William and Gladys Bedard Brustkern.

Chris was a sister of the Sisters of Mercy, teaching in Catholic Schools in the Waterloo and Cedar Rapids areas. She left the order in 1974 and was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 25 years, retiring in 2005.

Survivors include: a brother, John Brustkern of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: Cleo, Dick, Derry, Joe and Bill Brustkern; and four sisters: Donnie Fry, Miriam Rand, Patricia Frost and Mary Ann Pierce; and long time friend, Sr. Jane Ehrhardt, RSM.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour before services on Friday.
