Obituary for Rita A. Fox

Rita A. Fox, 89, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Independence, Iowa, died Friday, May 19 at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo.

She was born October 24, 1927 in Isabel, South Dakota. daughter of John and Mary Evers Leonard. She married C. Lee Fox on November 18, 1947 in Independence. He died March 27, 2010.

Rita graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence in 1951. She then worked in office management at Sears for 14 years, until her retirement in 1984.

Survivors include: four sons, Mick of Des Moines, John Dove ‘Loras’ of Brockton, Mass., Mark (Jason Pierce) of Denver, Colo. and Tom of Waterloo; three daughters, Cathleen Moorhous of Chicago, Ill., Patricia (Jack Oswald) Cusmano of Des Moines and Teri (Kendall) Koenen of Parkersburg; a sister, Pat Cruz of Fullerton, Calif.;11 grandchildren, Dan (Cindy) Rose, Sean (Bridget) Rose, Krista (Wayne) Kube, Michael Fox, Cody (Jordan) Fox, Nick Cusmano, Tim (Brooke) Cusmano, Lea (Ryan) Jones, Laura Koenen, Justin (Olivia) Koenen and Jessica Koenen; 11 great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: her husband; a son-in-law, George Moorhous; two brothers, John and Joe Leonard; and two sisters, Gertrude Slick, and Catherine Pexa; and two siblings in infancy Vincent and Margaret.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour before services on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice, Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Columbus High School.
