Dorothy M. Spain 94, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday May 21, at Ravenwood Specialty Care.

She was born September 18, 1922 to David and Betty Elizabeth Bell Kindle in Grenada, Mississippi. She married John Spain August 5, 1944 in Grenada, Mississippi. They had six children from their union. Dorothy moved with her husband and family to Waterloo, Iowa, in 1952. Dorothy was a loving homemaker until she became ill and moved to Ravenwood nursing home in 2010. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking great meals, watching her TV stories, and visiting with her family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Spain; by three brothers: George, John, and David; and by five sisters: Florence Johnson, Lorna Bradford, Bessie Ross, Ruby Spain, and Mary Hannah.

Survivors include six children: Robert H. (Waynette) of Belgium, Wis., Bennie of Waterloo, Johnny B. (Bonnye) of Rocklin, Calif., Carolyn B. (James) Watson of Milwaukee Wis., Ida P. (Robert) Frazier of Waterloo, Ralph of Franklin, Wis.; a sister, Sarah Joshua of Detroit, Mich.; twelve grandchildren: Cameron, Paschal, Taryle, Tamir, Barrett, Duane, Keisha, Geoffrey, Kristin, Kelly, Alyssa and Leslie; fourteen great-grandchildren, Aushnee, Paris, Tafari, Malaina, Tajay, Sydney, Keyshawn, Truth, Tamia, Tacari, Kendall, Dwayne, Kayla, and Max; three great-great-grandchildren, Zyniah, Tylan, and Landon; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be for an hour before services Friday at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street is in charge of arrangements.
