Ronald “Ron” Ray Turner was born on March 3, 1942, in Waterloo, the son of Ray and Marjorie D. Turner. Ron graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1960. He then attended the University of Dubuque for two years, majoring in Biology, and transferred to UNI for a year, majoring in Industrial Arts.

In between his last year of high school and college years, Ron worked on Leech Lake (Pine Point Resort) as a dock boy, getting bait, taking care of boats, cleaning fish and guiding. He started working at John Deere Component Work in 1962 and retired as a production supervisor in 1993 after 31 years of service.

Ron was also in the Army Reserves for six years. He belonged to the 404th Signal Company with basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. His AIT training came at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Ron married Karen Wilson in 1962. They later divorced.

He then married Sue Hult. They later divorced. Ron then married Kathleen Jo Larson. Ron died at the age of 74 on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ron is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Dysart; two daughters, Ronda (Russ) Egbert and their children, Ellie and Emerson, all of Texas and Tristi (Cory) King and their children, Dakota, Silas Jr., and Lucas, all of Cedar Falls; a son, Travis (Anne) Turner and their children, Elizabeth and Jackson, all of Dysart; and a sister, Judy (Jim) Burton of Waterloo.
