Patricia Lou Shafer was born April 27, 1936 in Waterloo, Iowa: the daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth (Nolteriek) Olds. She graduated from Waterloo West High School with the class of 1954.

Patricia married Roland Gorman in 1955; they later divorced. She was later united in marriage to Don Shafer on October 26, 1974 at Westminster Presbyterian Church; on her parent’s 40th wedding anniversary. Patricia worked at Woolworths when it first opened; she was in charge of fabrics and pets.

Later, she did alterations at Sears. On the side, Patricia made clothing for several of her customers. She enjoyed snowmobiling and riding with Don on the motorcycle. Patricia also liked knitting, crocheting and quilting. She was the leader for many years of the Piece Makers sewing group and also served in many capacities as a life member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Patricia passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at her home at the age of 80 of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Elizabeth Gorman.

Patricia is survived by her husband Don of Waterloo; 3 sons: Richard “Rick” Gorman, Brian Gorman and Craig Gorman, all of Waterloo; two stepsons: Donald Shafer of Waterloo and David Shafer of Omaha, Nebraska; a stepdaughter Shelley Shafer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren: Travis Gorman, Jordan Gorman and Ashley Faye (Schwaab Gorman Wilson); two step-grandchildren: Brian (Amanda) Chism and Morgan Shafer; two great-grandchildren: Chris and Mayslynn Chism; a brother Robert Olds of New Jersey and a sister Jeanine Wise of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. Patricia will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
