Earnest McCellan was born December 29, 1946, in Mississippi, son of Joseph and Almeta (Newman) McCellan. He graduated from Waterloo East High School. Earnest was united in marriage with Tanja Jones on June 25th 1983. He worked at John Deere for over 30 years as a Machinist.

Earnest is described by those who knew him as extraordinarily gifted with his hands. After retirement, he built homes and worked on cars. In his free time, Earnest enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, bowling, and traveling.

Earnest passed away unexpectedly at the age of 69 years at Allen Memorial Hospital-UPH on Sunday, December 11, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and two brothers, Joseph and Larry McCellan.

Earnest is survived by his father; his beloved wife; his son, Shawn Roebuck of Atlanta, Georgia; his step-son whom he raised as his own, Lloyd “Rocky” (Cary) Henry of Phoenix, Arizona; his two daughters: Yashica McCellan of Aurora, Colorado and Shondra (Eric) Hart of Arlington, Virginia; his brother, Tommy (Tracy) McCellan of Waterloo, Iowa; his three sisters: Jennifer (Tim) Galvin of Des Moines, Iowa; Geneva McCellan of Marion, Iowa; Earnestine Nesbitt of Denver, Colorado; and Peggy Moore of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and his grandchildren: Kendale, Deon, De-jon, Ty, Sage, and Naveah.

Earnest will be truly missed by all who knew him.
