Rebecca Elaine Roethler was born on March 15, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Ernest Martin and Minnie Louise (Kern) Lauer.

She was baptized on April 13, 1947, and confirmed on March 26, 1961. Rebecca attended Immanuel Lutheran School from K-8th grade, Logan Junior High School, and graduated from East High School with the Class of 1965.

She worked throughout high school at the High School Co-op and Montgomery Wards. Following graduation, she began working at the United States Post Office as a Clerk advancing through her 37 years to Management. While working at the post office, Rebecca met Russell C. Roethler and the two were married on October 17, 1970, in Waterloo.

Russell passed away on January 5, 1991. Rebecca retired from the U.S. Post Office in 2002 and enjoyed grandparenting to the fullest. She also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Rebecca was a very generous person sewing and tying countless blankets which were given away to anybody and everybody who God placed in her mind and heart along with various charities through the years. She was also very involved with her church through the years serving on a variety of boards.

Rebecca passed away per her wishes at home on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the age of 69 years following a brief battle with advanced lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Rhoda Lauer. Rebecca is survived by 3 daughters: Christin Adams of Mission, KS, Bethany Legg of Richmond Hill, GA, and Holly (Grant) Carolus of Waterloo; 7 grandchildren: Shelby Pardoe, Christopher Pardoe, Jared Legg, Elijah Legg, Savannah Legg, Levi Carolus and Nolan Carolus; a sister, Rhonda Lauer of Waterloo; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.

Rebecca will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, Valley Lutheran School or Cedar Valley Hospice.
