Richard Donald “Woody” Woods, II was born March 29, 1938 in Dubuque, Iowa: the son of Richard and Helen (Graham) Woods, Sr. He was raised at Fort Des Moines Army Base and attended Norwalk High School and Lincoln High School in Des Moines. Woody served in the United States Army in the Dental Corp.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Moen on November 20, 1965, in Lake Mills, Iowa. During his adult life, Woody lived in Castro Valley and Arnold, California, Traer, Cedar Falls, Waterloo and most recently Hiawatha, Iowa. He worked for Iowa Dental, owned and operated Coast to Coast Hardware in Traer, managed a Hardee’s and owned and operated Forestwood Restaurant Equipment and Repair. There wasn’t anything Woody couldn’t fix.

Woody was a long time member of the Boy Scouts and St. Timothys United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, volunteered for Mission of Mercy (which provided free dental) and worked at Farm Progress Show.

Woody passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the age of 78 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Woody is survived by his wife Maxine of Hiawatha; a son Donald (Julie) Woods of Cedar Rapids; two daughters: Marcia (Bill) Brandt of Davenport and Jennie Woods of West Des Moines; three grandchildren: McKenna, Graham and Seth Woods; a brother Dale (Doris) Woods of Coralville; two sisters: Beverly (Doug) Duysen of Kearney, Missouri and Ann (Ed) Phillips of Olathe, Kansas and uncle Les (Rosemary) Graham of Monroe, Wisconsin.

Woody will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and to be given to Cedar Valley Hospice, Mercy Hospice or Ingawanis Boy Scouts.
