Janice Agnes Israel was born on January 26, 1928, in Northeast Blackhawk county on the family farm in Bennington Township, daughter of Theodore and Martha (Schutte) Diercks. She was raised in both Blackhawk and Bremer county. Janice attended a one room rural school and St. Paul Lutheran school.

On September 9, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clifford Israel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Readlyn, Iowa. They lived in Illinois for a time before moving to rural Hazelton, Iowa in October of 1982 before heading to Waterloo, Iowa in 1987. Janice and Clifford had three children together.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her son Daryl; her infant brother Jeroyd; brothers: Eldon, LaVern; and sister Naomi.

She is survived by her husband; sons: Larry (Carol) Israel of Rapid City, South Dakota; Richard (Judy) Israel of Fall Creek, Wisconsin; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers: Burton (Sharon) Diercks of Denver, Iowa; L. P. (Shorty) Dierks of Waverly, Iowa; and sister Lois Golz of Lombard, Illinois.
