Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and as well as an hour prior to the services at the church

Biography--

Essie M. Johnson, age 79, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital.

She was born November 28, 1936, in Water Valley, Yellow Bush County, Mississippi, the daughter of Moses Eggleston and Clorey Hervey.

Essie was united in marriage with Herlie Johnson, Sr. in 1953 in Water Valley, MS. They were later divorced.

Essie worked in the laundry department of St. Francis Hospital and also worked for several years for John Deere and Co.

She was a member of the Waterloo Church of Christ. Essie loved her family and was fond of cooking, reading her bible and listening to gospel music. Her home was always open and she was a mother to many young people over the years.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina R. Johnson and Sherry (Gordon) Jefferson; four sons, Vincent E. Porter (Johnson), Jr., Derek (Marylin) Wortham, Cornelius Johnson, all of Waterloo and Steven Johnson of Texas; a daughter-in-law, Regina A. Johnson of Waterloo; a goddaughter, Kimberly Ann Gary of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Eddie (Ruth) Sanders and Leonard (Johnella) Sanders, all of Detroit, MI and a sister, Eva Cook of Water Valley, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Eddie Lee Johnson, David Johnson, Leroy Johnson, Sr. and Herlie Johnson, Jr.; a daughter, Rose Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Johnson and a brother, James Sanders.
